SITUATION OF INSECTS IN SPAIN (06-2023) IN HUMAN AND ANIMAL FOOD
On June 2, 2021, the first authorization for the marketing of an insect in Europe was published in the Official Journal of the European Union 3.

It has been added in different food categories, which will be followed by the rest of the pending authorizations. Once the favorable report from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is available. Currently, there are four species of insects authorized under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283:
- Mealworm larvae (Tenebrio molitor)
- Migratory locust (locusta migratoria)
- House cricket (Acheta domesticus)
- Larvae of the dung beetle (Alphitobius diaperinus).
